Talking, Yet Not Communicating

In all these years I’m working, I’ve met people from many countries who speak with various accents. With some people, I need more concentration and effort to understand what they are saying but in general I didn’t think I have problems understanding people. Until today. I called this guy from my office today and despite him speaking English, I didn’t understand a single word he said. Here’s how the conversation (if you can call it conversation) went:

Me: Hi X, I sent you email this morning asking you to do something. Did you receive that?

Him: Yes, kajhfe wf awieh sffawei jksfaehqfoe fjalf e kjelwewj

Me: (Huh?) So you received it? Did you manage to do it?

Him: Ks elwerewif jakjrwirwke fjfls something safjws skfeuq khsfuh

Me: Umm … sorry, you have to speak louder because I couldn’t hear you
(I knew volume was not an issue here, I just wanted him to repeat that in the hope I could understand what he was saying)

Him: (grumpily) Ks elwerewif jakjrwirwke fjfls something safjws skfeuq khsfuh!!!

Me: Okay, so you did receive the email?

Him: Yes

Me: And you managed to do it?

Him: qkwj snqwia fisaiql snqeirn euorj weirfnl

Me: (Banged my head on the floor while crying under the table)

At that point I gave up and just hang up. The thing is, I still need to find out if he managed to do the thing I told him in the email. Wish me luck :(
