To answer Patricia’s question below, lampworking does require lots of tools. From what I gathered, the basic tools are the torch (with the gas of course), mandrels, bead release, the fiber foam thingy to cool down the beads if you don’t have a kiln, safety glass, pliers, and the glass rods. If you want to make more complicated shapes you also need tweezers, tungsten/steel rake, graphite paddles, marver plate, etc. The basic steps are quite simple but it does take a lot of skills (and practice) to be able to create a good bead. I never realised how hard it is just to make a perfectly round bead until I joined this class. But it is not what prevents me from doing it at home.

First of all, buying the equipments require some investments, especially if I want to use a kiln. This may not be my long term hobby so I can’t justified the expense at the moment. Secondly, lampworking require a place with good ventilation and no doubt the working table will be quite a mess. I live in a small apartment and I don’t feel comfortable doing it on my dining table.

So the only option so far is to practice at Glassil, but at $95 per session I will go broke very soon :-)

    Hi Shimin,

I don’t think Glassil sells charms of beads supplies. As far as I know they only have classes such as lampworking and PMC silver.

Do you have any idea if they sell Gold-Filled chains? If they don’t, do you know where I can get them?

Hello! Just wanted to find out more about the experience you had at the lampworking class. Does it require a lot of tools and involves so many complicated steps that you wouldn’t quite want to do that at home? Thx!
